- VERB - FORM I− Infinitive (to V) (Động từ nguyên mẫu có "to") * Cách sử dụng - Là chủ ngữ của câu: ex: To learn English well is very necessary. - Là bổ ngữ của câu: ex: Her study is to keep a secret. What I like best is to chat all day. - Là bổ ngữ của một số V: 1) V + to V want, expect, refuse, hope, decide, agree, plan, would like, fail, learn, afford (đủ khả năng), manage, demand, prepare, promise, wish, begin/ start, mean (định), determine, forget, happen(tình cờ), long (mong muốn), offer, choose, claim, appear (có vẻ như), attend, pretend (giả vờ), seem, try, to, threaten ex: I happen to meet her at the club. People long to live forever. He managed to climb over the wall. 2) V + O + to V tell, remind, want, force (bắt buộc), order, invite, offer, enable, persuade, advise, allow, forwards, encourage, cause, ask, convince, challenge, expect, hire, need, permit, require, teach, urge (nài nỉ), warm. ex: The long ears enable rabbits to hear very well. They required me to repair that house. 3) V + where/when/how/ + to V V: teach, ask, learn, explain, know, decide, understand, remember, forget. ex: She taught me how to drive a car. He asked me where to get food. Mary explained to me how to use the computer. 4) Sau một số tính từ: Adj + to V able, unable, happy, delighted (vui mừng), easy, lovely, glad, sorry (tiếc), anxious (nóng lòng), content (bằng lòng), afraid, eager, amazed (ngạc nhiên), pleased, disappointed, surprised, certain, willing (sẵn lòng) ex: I'm glad to see you again. 5) Dùng trong một số cấu trúc: - It + be + adj + to V: It's very interseting to learn English. - S + find + adj + to V: I find it very interesting to know her. - S + be + too + adj + to V (quá nên không thể) ex: He is too old to run fast. - Chỉ mục đích: I go to school to get knowledge/ in order to get knowledge. To tell you the truth/ To be honest/ To be perfectly frank/ make an effort/ attemp to V. II. The Gerund (Ving): Danh động từ 1) Chức năng - Là chủ ngữ của câu: Learning English is very important. - Là bổ ngữ: I like drinking beer. - Là bổ ngữ sau "to be" (là): My desire is entering the university. - Bổ ngữ cho N với chức năng như 1 Adj: He is boring man. - Sau giới từ (bất kỳ): After reading the book, he went to bed. 2) Cách dùng : V + Ving: Sau 1 số V
- - Sở thích: like, love, enjoy, would you mind, hate, dislike, mind, detest (rất ghét). ex: She hate eating chocolate. - finish, postpone, avoid, keep, practise, missm spend, allow/permit, advise, recommend, give up, suggest, deny, consider, quit, can't help (không thể không), risk, mention, fancy, imagine, delay, escape, feel like, forgive (tha thứ), report, involve (đòi hỏi, liên quan), recall, recollect, appreciate (ghi nhận), admitted ex: He admitted to stealing my bike. He considered moving to London. The decided to postpone playing football. - Ving dùng sau một số thành ngữ + It's no good/use + Ving + It's/ is not + worth + Ving (đáng/không đáng làm gì) ex: It's not worth waiting. + There is no point in/ not much point in + Ving: làm việc gì cũng vô dụng + Have difficult in + Ving + spend/ waste + money/ time + Ving : tiêu tốn tiền bạc vào việc gì + a waste of time/money + Ving + a waste of oppotunity + to V: bỏ lỡ cơ hội làm gì change of Ving - can't stand can't/ couldn't help can't bear/ couldn't bear III. Một số V dùng được với "Ving" và "to V". 1. Không thay đổi về nghĩa: start, begin, continue, cease (chấm dứt) ex: If life on Earth ceases to exit/ existing . 2. Thay đổi về nghĩa - stop + Ving: dừng làm gì to V: đang làm dừng lại để làm gì ex: I stopped doing the gardening to greet us. - Go on + Ving: tiếp tục làm gì to V: bổ sung thêm vào sau khi đã làm một việc gì (hay dùng với "say" = "as"). ex: She went on to say that he often behaved violently. - mean + Ving: có liên quan đến = "involve" to V: có ý định = "intend" ex: The plan means enlarging the city. - Agree + to V: đồng ý làm gì agree to + O + Ving: đồng ý với ai ex: She agree to them refusing to help. - Remember + Ving: nhớ đã/ chưa làm gì + having P2: khi cần nhấn mạnh, liên quan đến quá khứ. + to V: nhớ đến hành động liên quan đến tương lai ex: I remember going to there. not having locked the door before I went out. Remember to phone me when you get home. - forget + to V + Ving ex: I forget to lock the door when I went out.
- greeting my friend before I left London. - Regret + Ving: tiếc cho 1 hành động trong quá khứ + to V: để thông báo tin tức không tốt lành. Regret to say/tell/inform/report - Try to V: cố gắng Ving: thử làm gì IV. Một số V dùng với Ving hoặc V nguyên thể không "to" * V tri giác: V: see, hear, listen, watch, observe, notice, feel + Ving: Chứng kiến hành động đang xảy ra (1 phần hành động) V (nguyên thể không "to"): chứng kiến toàn bộ hành động (kể lại) ex: I observe him cleaning/ clean the room carefully. V: taste, smell, catch, find + Ving ex: We caught him climbing over the wall. * Những V có hai dạng bị động đặc biệt see, hear, watch/ observe + O + Ving / V → O → S + be + V + + Ving/ to V ex: I saw him cry/crying → He was seen to cry/ crying.
- VERB - FORM Exercise 1: Put the verbs in parentheses into their correct Infinitive or Gerund 1. Mr Baker s children are busy (collect) stamps for their club. 2.
