It is working It is not working Is It working? ✓ Note: * Khi động từ kết thúc bằng ‘e’, bỏ ‘e’ và thêm ‘ing’: love - loving, write - writing Nhưng nếu động từ kết thúc ‘ee’, giữ nguyên thêm ‘ing’: free - freeing, see - seeing, knee - kneeing * Khi động từ có một âm tiết kết thúc bằng 1 nguyên âm + 1 phụ âm (trừ h, w, x, y), nhân đôi phụ âm trước khi thêm ing: stop - stopping, run - running Nhưng: fix - fixing, play - playing (vì có x, y) ở cuối từ. greet - greeting (2 nguyên âm + 1 phụ âm cuối) work - working (1 nguyên âm + 2 phụ âm cuối) * Quy luật này cũng áp dụng cho động từ có 2 âm, nếu trọng âm của từ rơi vào âm tiết thứ 2. be’gin - beginning, pre’fer - preferring Nhưng ‘suffer - suffering (nếu trọng âm của từ rơi vào âm tiết số 1) Một vài trường hợp cần phải thuộc lòng: die - dying, lie - lying, tie - tying ✓ Cách dùng: • Dùng để chỉ một hành động đang được tiến hành trong lúc đang nói: Listen! The bird is singing. • Một kế hoạch trong tương lai: They are playing tennis next week. • Dùng với always đế diễn tả một lời phàn nàn : He is always yelling at other people. • Dùng để diễn đạt tương lai (nằm trong lịch, khách quan không thay đổi được) ✓ Dấu hiệu nhận biết: now, right now, at the moment, at the present, today, while Câu bắt đầu bằng một mệnh lệnh như: Listen!, Look!, Pay attention!, Keep silent! 3. It will work It will not (won’t) work Will It work? ✓ Cách dùng: • Một hành động có thể xảy ra trong tương lai: They will come here next week. • Một lời đề nghị hay một yêu cầu (ở thể nghi vấn): Will you go to the cinema with me? ✓ Dấu hiệu nhận biết: Thường thì khi trong câu có các cụm từ sau ta chia động từ ở thì tương lai đơn: Next ___ ( next week, next month, ), At + thời gian tương lai * Chú ý: Để diễn tả một ý định cá nhân trong tương lai, ta có thể dùng TO BE GOING TO + VERB or chỉ hành động sẽ xảy ra theo kế hoạch trong tương lai: AM/ IS/ ARE VING (Hiện tại tiếp diễn) 4. Comparative adjectives: Positive Comparative Rule Example One syllable fast faster + er This car is faster than that one. large larger + r Your room is nicer than mine. big bigger + ger It is hotter in HCM city than in Hanoi Two syllables noisy noisier y -> ier Minh is busier than Long. modern more modern more + adj Hanoi is more crowded than Hue city. - Ex. My brother is the tallest person in my family. S1 + tobe + the short adj+ est + noun + ( in / of + n) b. Superlative with long adjectives: Ex. This dress is the most expensive dress in this shop. S1 + tobe + the most + long adj+ est + noun + ( in / of + n) c. Note: - Tính từ từ hai âm tiết kết thúc bằng "y" thì đổi "y" thành "i" rồi thế " est" Ex. happy - happiest easy - easiest - Tính từ kết thúc bằng "e" thì chỉ thêm "st" Ex. large - largest - Nếu tính từ ngắn có một nguyên âm đứng giữa hai phụ âm thì gấp đôi phụ âm cuối rồi thêm "est" Ex. hot - hottest thin - thinnest - Một vài trường hợp là tính từ bất quy tắc: Adjective Superlative Meaning good the best tốt, hay, giỏi nhất bad the worst xấu, tồi tệ nhất little the least ít nhất many / much the most nhiều nhất far the farthest / furthest xa nhất 6. Modal verb: Must - Đồng từ khuyết thiếu must (phải) được dùng để đưa ra một mệnh lệnh, sự cấm đoán. Ex. You must finish your homework before going to bed. He must arrive here on time. - Khi phủ định, chúng ta chỉ cần thêm " not" sau động từ "must". Có thể viết tắt là mustn't. Ex. You mustn't play with fire He mustn't tobe late. Chú ý: - NGoài động từ must thì các động từ khuyết thiếu thường gặp: can (có thể), should (nên), may - might (có lẽ), - Động từ khuyết thiếu không cần chia ở ngôi thứ ba số ít: I must; She must; He must; - Không có hình thức nguyên thể hay quá khứ phân từ giống như các động từ khác. - Động từ chính đứng sau không chia, ở dạng nguyên thể ( có hoặc không có "to"). Ex. They must follow the rules. - Không cần trợ động từ trong câu hỏi, câu phủ định. Vì bản thân từ " must" đã là một trợ động từ. Ex. What must I do now ? B. PART B: SKILLS - LISTENING: Nghe bắt thông tin chi tiết (listen for gist) 4
- - READING: đọc lấy nội dung chính và đọc để tìm thông tin chi tiết và cụ thể (scanning, skimming, gap filling ) - WRITING: viết câu với từ cho sẵn, và dùng cách diễn đạt viết lại câu giữ nguyên nghĩa (sentence building, transformation, rewriting - to check their understanding/knowledge of one topic + Sts' ability in using language). - SPEAKING: hỏi đáp hoặc nhìn tranh chỉ đường II.
