OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. identify the situation for the conversation between Linda and Tony (setting, participants, topics). 2. Ask and answer questions about distance between a place and Hue using: Is ____ near Hue? ̶ Yes, ____. / No, ____. It’s far from Hue 3. Know about distance between a place and Hue. B. LANGUAGE FOCUS Vocabulary: far from Key grammatical structure The sentence patterns: “Is near Hue?- Yes, / No, It’s far from Hue. C. INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES. - Textbook: Tiếng Anh 3, Student’s book page 66 - 4 pictures of places (Activity 2 – page 66) - Situational pictures and character cards - a computer and a projector. (Yes, it is)) - Elicit the sentence patterns “Is near Hue?- Yes, / No, It’s far from Hue” - Tell students that they are going to practise asking and answering questions about distance between a place and Hue - Play the recording more than once, if necessary, ask students to listen and repeat the dialogue - Do choral and individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking. - Play the recording again for students to listen and repeat. Activity 2: full controlled & less controlled Task 1: Controlled practice (Activity 2: Point and say.) - Run through the pictures. - Point to the first picture and model the task with one student, using the expressions in the bubbles and the word under the picture. Teacher: Is Ha Long Bay near Hue? Student: No, it isn’t. It’s far from Hue
  3. - Ask students to say the phrases chorally and individually. Repeat the same procedure with the rest of the pictures. - Ask students to practice in pairs, using the prompts in the bubbles and the pictures. - Call on some pairs to role-play the dialogue in front of the class. Monitor the activity and offer help, if necessary. Task 2: Less controlled. Ask and answer questions about distance between places - Show some pictures about places - Have students choose the pictures that they can tell the weather in different places using distance between a place and Hue - Ask them to interview 3 or 4 friends: one student asks the question and the other answers and then exchange the roles. - Monitor the activity and offer help if necessary. - Call on some groups of students to role-play in front of the class. . Activity 3: Wrap-up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1. What have you learnt from the lesson today? (talk about about questions about distance between a place and Hue using the sentence pattern ““Is near Hue?- Yes, / No, It’s far from Hue ” 2. What’re the core values of the lesson? - Know about places and hometown - Self-study: Lesson 2(4-6) - Remind students to prepare for the next lesson D. Identify specific information through pronouncing the letter cluster ar in far and or in north. 2. Listen and fill the gapped sentences with the words far and north . 3. Say the chant: Where’s Ba Vi? 4. Ss know their place or their hometown and love their country. B. LANGUAGE FOCUS - Sentence Patterns: Revision - Vocabulary: Revision C. INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES. - Textbook: Tiếng Anh 3, Student’s book page 68 - Track (Unit 20-page 68), - Letter ar in the word far and or in the word north. Play the tape again for students to listen and repeat. Activity 2: full controlled & less controlled Task 1: Listen and write. - Have Ss open their books to page 68. - Get Ss to talk about the way to do the task. - Tell Ss that they are going to listen and write the missing words in the sentences 1 and 2. - Listen and check answer. - Ask Ss trade their answers within pairs or groups for correction. - Ask 3-4 Ss to read their answers aloud to the class - Listen and give comments. - Have the whole class repeat each line of the dialogues. Task 2: Let’s chant. Where’s Ba Vi? - Ask Ss to look at the chant in their books. - Play the tape and ask Ss to listen. - Play the tape again. - Ask Ss to practice singing in groups. - Call on one group to perform the chant at the front of the class Activity 3: Wrap-up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1.   8. Warmer: Greeting and chanting - Greet the students. - Get 2 groups of six to the front of the class to perform the chant Where’s Ba Vi? - Lead into the new lesson. Activity 1: Reading practice (Activity 1: Read and match.) - Have Ss open their book page 69. - Tell Ss that they are going to read the test and answer the questions about A Vung and his place. - Guide ss to do the task. - Read and do the task individually. - Monitor the activity. - Have Ss trade their answer in pair for correction. - Call on some Ss to report their answers. - Listen and give comments. - Give correct answers: - Have the whole class read each sentence in chorus. Activity 2: full controlled & less controlled Task 1: Writing practice (Let’s write.) - Tell ss that they are going to answer the questions about themselves. - Give ss time to do the task. - Go around offering help, if necessary. - Check answers. Task 2: Project (Talk about your favourite place) - Tell ss that they are going find a photo of a city in Viet Nam and give a presentation on the place they like. - Monitor the activity. - Give feedback and comment.
